UI (User Interface) Architecture & Design
TODAY SIMPLICITY IS THE KEY
Creating an architectural blueprint of a successful UI design requires the use of multiple skill sets including research, strategic and forward thinking, creativity, innovation, marketing, and branding. We use these skills to plan, conceptualize, develop and deploy every UI undertaking. At Alive ProStudios, our extensive expertise in each of these areas gives us the competitive edge that you need in a highly competitive market.
One of our biggest challenges is the rapid pace of change in technology. To counter this we create solutions that employ the latest technology... not easily outdated over time. We always put the user’s experience first and that is why we employ a set of key principles that ensure the success of every UI project. These include:
- Thorough knowledge of your user
- Designing the program with stable structure
- Creating features that are easy to see
- Programing behaviour that is consistent
- Designing key features that stand out
- Programing changes that are clearly visible
- Creating an aesthetically pleasing program
- Subtly applying branding and marketing elements to bolster sales where applicable
Here are two case studies to illustrate our process:
1) Nexus Lasers from USA Laser
Introduction
Nexus is a high performance desktop laser with deep tissue penetration specially designed for high-demand biostimulation procedures such as traumatic physical injury, postoperative applications, and surgical procedures for both Dentistry and Physical Medicine.
The Challenge
Create a Nexus Laser UI that is easy and intuitive enough to be operated by dental and medical assistants and other staff members.
Our Solution
The Alive ProStudios team approached the design of the user interface from the perspective of the staff, and their limited knowledge of technology. We impressed the USA Lasers' team with a simplified, user-friendly UI architecture and design that functions well and covers all the features including customizable options for advance use. The interface is also aesthetically pleasing even while highlighting safety protocols. This product is awaiting FDA approval and should be available in 2012.
2) WS iPad interactive application
Introduction
“What Sticks” is the title of one of the best selling marketing books in the United States. Alive ProStudios was assigned to create an exceptional UI architecture and design to accommodate all interactive and multimedia components of the book.
The Challenge
The iPad has strict guidelines when it comes to horizontal and vertical screen views. The extensive graphical preparation typically requires long lead times. Our challenge was to create a visually pleasing and easy-to-use UI in a very short timeframe.
Our Solution
Through the use of a smart gridline for layout, and by employing master style sheets to control global typographic and page layouts, we were able to reduce the labour component in each of the development stages by 50%. This approach allowed the client to meet their deadline, and ultimately saved them thousands of dollars in production costs. You can download the WS iPad application in the near future from your app store.
